How We Are Responding to COVID-19
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has employed a number of measures recommended by the NYS Department of Health (DOH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to best protect the health and safety of our staff and residents:

Staff Wearing a face mask: Healthcare personnel & facility staff shall wear a surgical face mask, while within six feet of residents & one another.

Staff Health check/screening: All individuals are screened upon entrance to the facility by answering designated questions and a temperature check. Any adverse response, fever or cold symptoms will be addressed accordingly and the individual will not be permitted to remain in the building.

Social Distancing: Staff and residents are educated and encouraged to social distance.

Ongoing Testing (updated 01/19/24): On Jan 19, one of the facility’s residents tested positive for Covid-19. Facility continues to follow all NYSDOH and CDC recommendations to maintain the health and safety of our residents and staff.
Resident Covid-19 Support 1-1 Meeting
Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center recreation department will be offering 1-1 daily friendly support visits in each resident’s room. Covid-19 updates will be provided to residents as needed or as desired.

Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is committed to providing families with novel coronavirus (COVID-19) informational updates posted on our website and personal updates via telephone regarding your loved ones’ specific status as well as other important information. Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center will continue to be available to family members to respond to any questions you may have. Do not hesitate to contact your social worker with any questions. Please also contact Recreation for assistance in scheduling Audio or Video calls with loved ones 516-889-1100 ext. 247.
Executive Order 202.18 – Notification to Family or Next of Kin
Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is committed to providing families with novel coronavirus (COVID-19) informational updates posted on our website and personal updates via telephone regarding your loved ones’ specific status. Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has been, and will always remain transparent in its reporting of COVID-19 information during this pandemic.
In response to Executive Order 202.18 issued by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo on April 19, 2020, all nursing homes licensed by the New York State Commissioner of Health shall notify family members or next of kin of all residents if any resident or staff tests positive for COVID-19.
In accordance with Executive Order 202.18, Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center will update our designated Covid-19 family notification hotline daily. The hotline message will include the number of new COVID-19 positive tests and COVID-19 related expirations for the past 24-hour period for residents and staff, as well as any other important Covid-19 information. The hotline will be updated daily even if there are no new cases to report.
Executive Order 202.30- Staff Testing
Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center began staff testing on May 20th 2020. Currently all staff are required to be fully vaccinated, and testing takes place in the event of an outbreak, and/or as per NYSDOH Epidemiology recommendation.

On December 30st 11 residents tested positive for Covid-19, and on 12/31 1 resident, and one employee tested positive Facility continues to follow DOH and CDC recommendations
